colorful butterflies dance

元旦や

蝶が舞い

後記

日頃よりささいな物事の新鮮な驚き、喜び、希望を小さな紙片に書き綴っておりました。 好きな英語を使って、何時とはなしに、日英両語の俳句を嗜んでいました。 広い視野が開けて行く様でした。
此の度、活字にする運びとなって、あらためて平成六年から八年の二百句以上の句を眺めました。 まるで写真を見るように句の思い出が、鮮明によみがえり、貴重な日々であった事を痛感します。
その中から拙句百二十句を選出して、予てよりの念願の「句集」を上梓する事ができました。 喜びと共に、これからの新たな努力の出発が始まりました。
折しも、今年の秋に俳聖松尾芭蕉の「奥の細道」の自筆本が、 大阪市の古書店より二五三年目に日の目を見ることができたと言う 一大ニュースが飛び込んで来ました。
私を応援して下さった方々に、深く感謝いたします。

Acknowledments

I have been composing haiku for a long time and yet it is always a refreshing experience. I am constantly surprised as to where it leads my thoughts on everyday events in nature. But also it underlines for me the delicate balance of life that we seem to becoming less aware of in our busy lives.
I wrote my haiku poems on whatever small pieces of paper were at hand and when an idea came to mind. Composing them in Japanese and English posed its problems but in turn opened up further possibilities and new insights that I had previously never considered.
When I planned to publish my haiku work, I took out my old diaries to read again and again the more than 200 haiku I composed from 1994 to 1996. I fondly remembered every single minute and scene in each haiku vividly. After I picked 120 haiku out, I was lucky enough to get an opportunity to publish my first book.
I hope it will be the start of a new direction in my life.
Soon after the decision to publish my work, a wonderful event took place that I took for a good sign. The original book of “Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Roads)” written by Matsuo Basho was discovered in a storage room in a book store in Osaka after missing for 253 years.
They say the haiku spirit of “Matsuo Basho” is still living with us. I hope we can share the haiku spirit together.
I would like to thank my teachers:
Mr. Hiroshi Sawano, the President of “Haiseikai” Haiku Society, for teaching me haiku.
Prof. Yukio Sakamoto of Kansai University, a member of the British Haiku Society and the Haiku Society of America, and
Prof. Stephen Gill of Ritsumeikan University, a member of the British Haiku Society, for teaching me English haiku techniques.
I am grateful to Mr. & Mrs. Takao & Mitsuko Onishi who helped me in the designing, printing and binding of this book.
I would also like to thank my son-in-law, Sozo Yamamoto for helping me in layout and editing work and for redrafting my haiku in English. Despite his tight schedule, he spared the time to give me ideas and ingenuity whenever I needed it.
Many thanks to my mother Shoko Omura, real name Toshiko, who wrote the Japanese calligraphy on the cover and my daughter, Ritsuko who drew the pictures and finally my husband, Yoshihiko Suzuki and my son and his wife for their understanding and support to publish this book. Thank you very much.
